Program: Virtual Clerk of Course — Meet Alerts. Signed-in users of the Virtual Clerk of Course web app (virtualclerkofcourse.com) may opt in to receive text-message (SMS) alerts about the swimmers and swim meets they choose to follow. This page shows exactly how a user consents to receive these messages.
How to opt in (call-to-action)
- Open the Virtual Clerk of Course web app and sign in (free) with Google.
- Star (⭐) the swimmer(s) you want to follow.
- Open the 🔔 Alerts tab (or User → Notifications Settings).
- Under "How should we reach you?", turn on Text message (SMS) — this control is OFF by default; the user must actively enable it.
- Enter your own mobile number and read the consent disclosure.
- Tap Turn on notifications to submit consent.
Providing a mobile number and enabling SMS is entirely optional. Consent to receive text messages is not a condition of using the app or of any purchase.

What messages users receive
Only alerts about the swimmers/meets the user follows in the app. In Notifications Settings each alert category is chosen per channel — In-app, Push, Email, and SMS are turned on or off independently, so a user can receive a category by push but not by text, for example. The categories eligible for SMS are:
- A scratch window opens, is closing soon, or has closed
- Their swimmer makes finals or is named an alternate
- A scratch or check-in is submitted for their swimmer
- Their scratch is applied or marked invalid
Results-posted alerts are never sent by text (they remain available on push, email, and the in-app inbox). SMS is off until the user enters a number and picks which of the categories above should text them.
Sample message: "Virtual Clerk of Course: The scratch window for Event 12 (Girls 13-14) is now open. Reply STOP to opt out."
Message frequency
Frequency varies with meet activity — a user only receives a message when a swimmer/event they follow has an update they've chosen to be texted about. On an active meet day this may be several messages; between meets, none.
Message & data rates
Message and data rates may apply. Virtual Clerk of Course does not charge for the alerts; your mobile carrier's standard rates apply.
Opt-out & help
Reply STOP to any message to unsubscribe from all further messages. Reply HELP for help, or email virtualswimclerkofcourse@gmail.com. A user can also turn SMS off any time in Notifications Settings.
